Flickner's Cornerstones: Security, Jobs, Integrity
(From Wednesday's insert for the North Valley)

My name is Pat Flickner. I am an Army veteran, business leader, wife, with four grown children and eight grandchildren. I have never run for political office. Why should you vote for me?
I want real border security –a strong military presence and increased Border Patrol along our 400-mile border and enhancement and enforcement of the Employer Sanctions Act – while my opponent wants to ramp up the roundups while ignoring the employers who illegally hire undocumented workers.

I want to create jobs by creating a state credit union dedicated to small business lending. With big banks being very stingy about lending, this approach is already proven in other states like North Dakota. Small businesses create the majority of jobs, and opening up the flow of money is critical to turning Arizona’s economy around. I want to take away tax giveaways currently enjoyed by large corporations and offer Arizona businesses the incentives to create jobs. My opponent, on the other hand, is a lobbyist and Washington insider with fond memories of “the Hill” who is interested in climbing the ladder by further cutting taxes for large corporations to the tune of $600 million while claiming that she wants to cut taxes for the middle class.

I support public education. A good education for all Arizona’s children is crucial to bringing back Arizona’s economy. Most companies consider the quality of public education available in areas where they might expand and find Arizona’s current dropout rate of over 30% to be unacceptable. We are past the point of asking our teachers to do more with less. Time and again, Arizonans stepped up to tax themselves to support public education because a cowardly Legislature would not. My opponent, on the other hand, supports tuition tax credits that steal public money from our public schools and our children.

I support our police and firefighters unions. These unions support and serve those who put their lives on the line every day for our security and safety. My opponent publicly ridicules these unions and anyone they endorse.

I firmly believe in being accountable and taking responsibility for my actions. My opponent, on the other hand, is unwilling to accept responsibility for her actions, hiring a lawyer to get charges dismissed after she was charged with speeding and DUI, while freely admitting to those same charges on her website. My opponent also claims she believed that her donation to Wish List, a Republican women’s pro-choice organization, was for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Either she doesn’t understand the difference between Wish List and Make-A-Wish or she is dishonest.

Security, jobs, integrity. My name is Pat Flickner, and I am your candidate for State Senate in District 6.
